Australian Olive Oil Provenance ~ Designation of Origin Project a First for the Industry
6/07/2017

A unique project to investigate the feasibility of creating a designation of origin system resulting in greater cooperation and profitability for Australian olive oil farmers, heralds a new opportunity for the Australian olive industry.

Who can participate?
Currently, olive growers and producers from olive producing regions in South Australia and Queensland who are interested in the effect of regionality or provenance on the taste and chemistry of extra virgin olive oil, are being invited to  providing samples of their oil and olives.

What do I need to do to?
Growers who can provide 1 kg samples of their Frantoio olives, and / or 1L of varietal Frantoio oil can contact us below to arrange collection of their olive / olive oil samples by us - we take care of delivery and freight costs.

What does the project offer participating growers and producers?
~ For those providing oil and olives sample, the project fully covers the costs of in depth analysis and tests of your extra virgin olive oil which are required to establish regional provenance. These tests will include the types of polyphenols and the antioxidant capacity of your olive oil, which can be used to explain the health benefits of your extra virgin olive oil to consumers and market to your customers.

What does the project offer all participating olive growers and producers Australia wide?
~ Opportunity to attend practical olive oil taster courses where you can also share knowledge and experiences about your olive oils.

~ Practical workshops on how you can leverage and transfer new knowledge and skills for the commercial benefit of your olive business and olive producing regions.

~ Opportunity to establish regional networks that understand exactly what makes the oils of your region unique.

All growers and producers who are interested in regionality and the importance of olive oil provenance but do not grow Frantoio, are also welcome to participate in this project and stand to benefit from the knowledge, experience, benefits and commercial outcomes that this project offers.

Simply contact us and register your interest to receive details to come along to the olive taster courses, commercial outcomes and skills development workshops, and regional networking opportunities on offer during the course of the project.
